Fleet Feet Sports Kingsport is proud to present the XTERRA "Power to the Tower" trail half marathon on April 7th, 2012 at Bays Mountain Park. This is an official XTERRA TRAILRUN national trail race and part of the Tennessee XTERRA series as well as the Trailrunner Magazine Trophy Series.

Utilizing the newly developed single track trails of Bays Mountain, runners will wind their way around the lake for the first 5 miles before hitting Aid Station 1, which will literally be music to your ears. The highlight of this section will be Cherry Knobs trail. Steep enough to fall down, Cherry Knobs is blisteringly fast, so keep your wits about you and you might hit a new PR.

Leaving AS1, runners will begin “Powering” to the tower, climbing to the ridge of the mountain. Don’t rest on your laurels, as this section is made to trash your quads with its rolling climbs. AS2 will be located directly beneath the Fire Tower, giving runners a brief respite before bombing back down the mountain. Survive this, and it’s back to the bottom of the valley, traversing a few more miles of single track before reaching the finish, located directly in front of the Farmstead Museum.

Not feeling up to 13 miles of trail? The 3rd annual Run for TC 5 miler, honoring legendary local coach Tom Coughenour, will be run right before the start of the half, finishing at Aid Station 1. This is a great race to get a feel for what the trail racing scene is all about and provides the perfect excuse to ditch the pavement.

Fun, challenging, and exciting are all words that can describe an XTERRA race, and the Power to the Tower will certainly live up to that. Hope to see you in April!
