Meet Our Coaches

All of the Fleet Feet Sports Training Programs are a success because of our Coach and Mentor Team!  We have an incredible group of coaches and mentors who volunteer their time to motivate, inspire and coach participants to their goals! This amazing group of runners and walkers volunteer their time so they can share their passion with others.

The majority of our coaches and mentors are past participants. Many of them have gone through at least one of the Fleet Feet Sports Kingsport Training Programs.  And more importantly, ALL of the coaches and mentors started their running and walking journey the same way we all do, one step at a time.  The team has tons of experience and knowledge about running and walking.

BILL QUALLS: TURTLE'S COACH FOR NO BOUNDARIES

I have always enjoyed sports but when I turned 50 I became less and less active.  Work, family activities, and other distractions took away from my fun time and I became a “slug”.  Then I met this person from Eastman named Donna Bays. She talked me into the 5K Couch “potatoes” class and I will never forget when I could finally run a mile without dying.  Now 4 years later I have completed 5 half marathons and helped coach countless “turtles” to enable them to reach their personal goals.

 Tell Us About Your Self,

I am 37 years old and live in Rogersville, TN. I am a Medical Laboratory Technician for Holston Medical Group in Church Hill, TN. A few years ago HMG started "Fit 4 Living", a program designed to promote a healthy lifestyle for employees through proper nutrition and exercise. I discovered the "No Boundaries" 5K training program and enrolled in the Fall 2011 class as a way to fulfill the physical activity component of the "Fit 4 Living" program. I was immediately hooked & have been running ever since!

 What Motivates You To Run,

I would run regardless. What motivates me to keep running with Fleet Feet in Kingsport is the support of the entire Fleet Feet "family"...it's the "home" of where my passion for running began. I'm thrilled to be able to give back by coaching the same class this Fall that I started with myself 4 years ago.

 What Is Your Favorite Race,

Crazy 8's 8K, which kicks off Fun Fest here in Kingsport...so much energy!

 Why Did You Start Running,

More importantly is why I will NEVER stop! Running has completely changed my life. Some of the worst times of my life have produced the best runs. Plus, I feel physically, mentally, and emotionally better than ever.

I am married with two children. I get to be a stay at home Mom, which I just love.

 What Motivates You To Run,

There is nothing any better than going out and running several miles. It is a wonderful stress reliever.

 What Is Your Favorite Race,

 Why Did You Start Running,

I started running in hopes of getting in shape and just wanting to feel better about myself. When I started in the No Boundaries several years ago, I couldn't run more than a minute without getting out of breath.

Phil Whittemore : No Boundaries Coach

Tell Us About Your Self,

A lifelong Kingsport resident, I’ve been married for 29 years and am the father to 2 twenty-somethings. I am the pastor of Bloomingdale Baptist Church in Kingsport.

 What Motivates You To Run,

Others. If it weren’t for improving my health with my family in mind, the chance to motivate others or to be motivated by others, and the opportunity to foster new friendships, I’d, quite frankly, quit. I’m incapable of running for myself.

What Is Your Favorite Race,

Anything with Ragnar Relay in the name (look it up, it’s a thing – ragnarrelay.com). 12 Friends + 2 Vans + 2 Days + 1 Night + 200 Mile Relay = Unforgettable Stories. There is no better running experience.

 Why Did You Start Running,

I started running for my health. I was overweight, diabetic, and had high blood pressure. I started NoBo in August 2010 and was able to lower my weight (it’s still an up and down battle!), my blood sugar, and my blood pressure. I was able to chuck all my meds and am still prescription free to this day.
